The An Average Campaign Ranger is the bow class. It starts with a Simple Bow, scales mainly with DEX, and has two subclasses: Fey Wanderer, found in the Forest, and Gloom Stalker, found in the Dungeon. You unlock either one by talking to its trainer in a specific encounter while you are a Ranger. Ranger has no Gunslinger subclass.

This page uses the official Trello cards (last edited between November 2025 and April 2026), the Roblox game page and player-documented notes for v0.5.1 through 0.5.1.4, checked 2026-10-20. The game is in Alpha and numbers change often; where Trello and newer notes disagree, we give the newer value.

01

Ranger base kit: bow, DEX and abilities

Every Ranger starts with the Simple Bow, which gives 3 DEX. The Ranger Trello card says the class builds DEX and INT; current community notes list DEX as the class stat, with INT mainly feeding Hunter's Mark. DEX raises crit chance, crit damage, dodge chance and your Initiative roll (see stats).

AbilityLevelEnergy / cooldownWhat it does
Shoot10 / 06 physical damage, scales with 2% DEX and 1% STR
Hunter's Mark10 / 43-turn mark: every hit on the target adds a bonus force hit (1 + 5% of the hit, more with INT)
Rain of Arrows32 / 52.5 x 3 physical damage to all enemies, 1% DEX
Giant Slayer53 / 614 physical damage, 2% DEX, 4% max HP damage, 3 turns of Vulnerable (25% more damage taken)

Trello still shows Giant Slayer at 13.5 damage and 5% max HP damage and Rain of Arrows at 1.5% DEX; v0.4.1 player notes list 14, 4% and 1%.

02

Ranger skill tree

The tree has three branches (ranked nodes give their effect per point):

  • Left: Fey Trickery gives 2% more psychic damage (multiplicative). Kinetic Mastery does the same for force damage.
  • Middle: Colossus Slayer makes Giant Slayer also apply 3 turns of Hunter's Mark (Feyfire Mark for a Fey Wanderer). HP adds 2 max HP. Stat Points adds 1 starting stat point.
  • Right: Preemption adds 1 Initiative. Scavengers Bounty adds 4% double-drop chance from normal encounters.

Skill points come from Prestige, your permanent level in each class: 3 points per level. A node needs rank 3 of 5 to open its neighbors, and a reset refunds points without lowering Prestige.

Ranger Upgrades such as Mark Prey, Marksman, Marked For Death and Sharpshooter come from the Timestream Entanglement One-Shot mode, not normal runs. See events.

Ranger subclasses and how to unlock them

SubclassHow to unlockPlaystyleKey abilities
Fey Wanderer (DEX, CHA)Forest: in the Fey Wanderer encounter, approach the man and choose "Pay attention to his teachings" as a RangerDebuffs, a Wisp summon and psychic damageFeyfire Mark (Lv 1), Summon Fey Wisp (Lv 4), Faerie Arrow (Lv 6), Feyspark Arrow (Lv 8)
Gloom Stalker (DEX, INT)Dungeon: in the Nightstalker encounter ("A Nightstalker" on Trello), approach him and choose "Learn the way of the Gloom Stalker" as a RangerStealth and single-target force burstArcane Shot (Lv 4), Umbral Shroud (Lv 6), Soulrend Arrow (Lv 8)

Those are the only two Ranger subclasses. Gunslinger is not one: it is a cosmetic outfit from the Draw! achievement (defeat the Drifter trainer).

How to get Gloom Stalker

In the Dungeon (the second main area), pick the encounter with a strange elf standing near a corpse, approach him and take the Gloom Stalker option. This also earns the "Will you prove worthy?" achievement, which unlocks the Silvered Arms boon. Arresting him starts a fight with the Nightstalker (about 65 HP solo, per community notes), who drops the Amoral Soul for the Nightstalker Bow.

How to get Fey Wanderer

In the Forest, pick the encounter with a man resting in a majestic part of the woods, approach him and listen to his teachings. This earns the Bixies... achievement and the Elven Skin boon. Scavenging instead gives 1 to 3 each of Pixie Dust, Fluorescent Flower and Red Flower; attacking him starts a fight with the Feyling, which drops a Caressing Soul.

Both unlock choices require base Ranger, and community encounter tables give both encounters much higher weight while you play Ranger. We could not confirm whether taking one subclass blocks the other later in the same run.

Gunslinger and Two Gun Thomas

Neither is tied to Ranger. Two Gun Thomas is an undead enemy in the Dungeon's Deadend Saloon; the duel option there needs a Drifter, the gun-using Rogue subclass, plus a DEX check. Beating him unlocks the Flow State boon, and winning the duel unlocks Versatile.

04

Fey Wanderer build

  • Feyfire Mark replaces Hunter's Mark: psychic instead of force, scales with CHA, and heals the attacker for 20% of the bonus damage.
  • The Wisp heals with Magic Dust, Charms enemies and applies Faerie Fire (5% miss chance, 5% less dodge, attacks on the target gain 15% crit chance).
  • Feyspark Arrow cannot be dodged or blocked and plants a Feybomb: the target takes 15% more psychic damage, then it bursts on every enemy.

Editorial build, as of Alpha v0.5.1 (October 2026):

  • Stats: DEX and CHA. Faerie Arrow scales 2.5% CHA against 1.75% DEX, the Wisp's HP and attacks lean on CHA, and the Wisp inherits part of your outgoing healing, which CHA raises.
  • Tree: Fey Trickery.
  • Bow: Herritt (crafted from the Caressing Soul) turns all Ranger physical damage into psychic and swaps Shoot's STR scaling for CHA.

Construct enemies take only 0.7x psychic damage, per community damage tables.

05

Gloom Stalker build

  • Umbral Shroud (0 energy, 5 cooldown) grants 4 turns of Shrouded: 15% flat crit chance, 1.25 extra base damage, force damage on your attacks, half aggro and a 10% enemy miss chance. The Trello card still says 6 cooldown and 5 turns; v0.4.2 player notes changed it.
  • Soulrend Arrow cannot be dodged or blocked; the target takes 1.25x force and dark damage for 4 turns.
  • Arcane Shot deals force damage and applies Hunter's Mark.

Editorial build, as of Alpha v0.5.1 (October 2026):

  • Stats: DEX and INT. Arcane Shot and Soulrend Arrow scale harder with INT, which also strengthens Hunter's Mark.
  • Tree: Kinetic Mastery. With Shrouded up, almost all your damage is force, so the force bonuses stack.
  • Bow: Nightstalker Bow (12 DEX, 8 INT, 5% crit chance on both Trello and player notes).

Best quivers and bows for Ranger

Quivers only affect Shoot, Rain of Arrows and Giant Slayer, and do not stack.

QuiverWhereHow to get itPassive
Fey QuiverForest2 Pixie Dust, 2 LogAdds CHA scaling equal to 30% of DEX scaling
Grovekin QuiverForest3 Leaves, 2 LogAdds INT scaling equal to 30% of DEX scaling
Lightweight QuiverForestTravelling MerchantDEX scaling 1.1x, plus 2% dodge chance
Enchanted QuiverDungeonEctoplasm, Slime Chunk, Imbued ClothAdds INT scaling equal to 50% of DEX scaling, plus 2% Energy Gain
Vampiric QuiverDungeonVial of Vampire's Blood, Bloody Fang, Imbued ClothAdds CHA scaling equal to 50% of DEX scaling, plus 3% lifesteal

Patch 0.5.1.2 trimmed the flat stats on four quivers. Editorial pick, as of Alpha v0.5.1 (October 2026): Fey into Vampiric for a Fey Wanderer, Grovekin into Enchanted for a Gloom Stalker, since each adds your subclass's second stat to the base attacks. Lightweight Quiver suits a Ranger still waiting for a trainer. More bows: weapons.

08

Solo tips for Ranger

  • Since patch 0.5.1.2, solo enemies lose 5% dodge and block chance, or drop to two-thirds of it, whichever is lower.
  • On bosses, open with Hunter's Mark (free), then Giant Slayer for Vulnerable. Save Rain of Arrows for waves.
  • Gloom Stalkers can keep Shrouded up almost constantly, and its 10% enemy miss chance is free defense.
  • Fey Wanderers get a second body and a healer in the Wisp, and Feyfire Mark heals you as you hit.
  • Elven Skin (0.85x force damage taken) helps against the Nightstalker, whose attacks all deal force damage.

FAQ

How do you get Gloom Stalker in An Average Campaign?

As a Ranger, find the Nightstalker encounter in the Dungeon, approach him, and choose "Learn the way of the Gloom Stalker." Fey Wanderer works the same way through the Fey Wanderer encounter in the Forest.

What is the best Ranger subclass?

Editorial, as of Alpha v0.5.1: Gloom Stalker for single-target burst, Fey Wanderer for debuffs, sustain and team play. You meet the Fey Wanderer first, so take whichever appears unless you are set on the other. See the tier list for the wider ranking.

What are the best boons for Ranger?

Editorial: Silvered Arms for Gloom Stalker, Summoner Supreme for Fey Wanderer, and Hunter Eyes plus crit boons for either.

Is there a Gunslinger subclass for Ranger?

No. Gunslinger is a cosmetic outfit, and the gun subclass is Drifter, which belongs to Rogue.
